Air Traffic Controller Flies Himself to Work by Paramotor

Colorado air traffic controller Jake Hutzler has transformed his weekly commute into a 20-minute paramotor flight. Travelling at about 35 mph above Pueblo, he coordinates with his airport tower before landing and starting work. The aviation enthusiast began flying to work in June, whenever weather and wind conditions allow safely.
Hutzler’s unusual commute combines his passion for aviation with his profession while demonstrating how powered paragliding can provide an accessible form of recreational flight.
Hutzler plans to continue flying to work once a week when winds and weather permit. He also hopes to take his young daughter on a tandem flight when she is old enough.

2021: Hutzler begins paramotor training in Florida.

Early 2026: He starts working as an air traffic controller.

June 2026: He completes his first paramotor commute.

Present: He continues flying to work, weather permitting.
