India Notifies ₹1.27-Lakh-Crore Semicon 2.0 Mission

India notified Semicon 2.0 with a ₹1.27-lakh-crore outlay spanning chip design, fabrication, packaging, equipment, materials, research and talent. Officials said 85,000 semiconductor engineers have already been trained, beating a ten-year target in four years. The notified scheme also targets 50,000–60,000 direct jobs and one lakh additional engineers across the country.
The programme expands India’s semiconductor strategy beyond factories to equipment, materials, research, design and workforce development. Students from Tier-II and Tier-III cities have already designed more than 250 chips.
Applications will initially remain open for three years. Approved projects can run for up to six years under the India Semiconductor Mission.
