Vietnam Jumps Seven Places to 52nd in Global Tourism Development Index
Vietnam climbed seven places from 2024 to rank 52nd among 110 economies in the World Economic Forum’s 2026 Travel & Tourism Development Index. Its score rose 6.1% to 4.15, with strong improvements in safety, price competitiveness, air transport, environmental sustainability and travel demand, according to Vietnam tourism authorities.
Vietnam recorded faster improvement than higher-ranked Southeast Asian peers. Regionally, Singapore ranked 13th, Indonesia 23rd, Malaysia 26th and Thailand 38th, while Vietnam placed fifth at 52nd. The index measures conditions supporting sustainable tourism development rather than tourist arrivals or revenue.
Vietnam will need to strengthen weaker areas including tourism infrastructure and services, environmental sustainability, tourism prioritisation and tourism’s socioeconomic impact while building on improvements in connectivity, security and competitiveness.
